And as he watched her sail away in a flurry of refreshing wind, a wind of cheerful farewells, he waited until the horizon stole her from his sight and turned around and returned into the dark.

Man oh man... Jill and Jack love each other. They love each other very much. But it's a secret. When Jill and Jack are around each other, they do all of these secret things towards each other that no one notices but them. They wink at each other and make silly comments that may seem absurd to those around but not to each other.
Anyways, Jill was leaving and couldn't say I love you Jack, so she said I love you Joe. Joe is a fictional character, perhaps, or even a real character that is used to display her affections to Jack. But Jack understands her notions and replies with a silly "Joe loves you too, but he loves you more," And they snicker and smile and laugh because they understand each other. I know it's way too much for the reader to persume, but it's not impossible for them to decipher it. But now that I've told you my take on it, you get it?
